BCAA offers other safety tips for motorists:
- Watch your speed – Follow posted speed limits, especially in school and construction zones. Slow down near children and watch for signs like BCAA’s “Slow Down, Kids Playing.”
- Stay focused – Avoid distractions like phones, devices or food. Plan your route ahead and take breaks on long trips to stay alert.
- Keep your distance – Maintain a safe following distance: at least two seconds in good conditions and more in poor weather.
- Drive courteously – Signal turns, yield at crosswalks, follow four-way stop rules and stay in the right lane unless passing. Be patient and respectful to others on the road.
- Be prepared – Carry an emergency kit with essentials like water, flashlight, phone charger, warm clothing and high-visibility gear.
