PHOTOS: Prince George's annual Toy Run roars through the streets, despite COVID-19

It was a 'no-frills' run because of the pandemic

Prince George's 39th annual Toy Run roared through the streets today (Sept. 27) despite COVID-19 forcing many annual events to cancel.

While, it was a no-frills event — as in there was no hot chocolate, coffee or treats for the riders to enjoy before the event — the routes remained the same.

Toy collection also did not occur in the CN Centre parking lot before the ride kicked off, as it usually does. Instead, riders dropped off their toys at the Salvation Army building on 18th Avenue.

The CN Centre parking lot also provided enough space for the riders to gather and social distance before the riders assembled to take part in the 1 p.m. ride through town.

The toys and donations collected from the Sept. 27 event support the Salvation Army Christmas Hampers, providing gifts for children and teens from families who can’t afford Christmas presents.

Every year the Salvation Army gathers hundreds of toys from the event, which is critical for filling the hampers and providing presents for families who might otherwise go without.
