PHOTOS: Prince George Spruce Kings lose Thursday nighter to Chilliwack

Quick goals in middle period were the difference in second-straight home loss

The rivalry was for real last night (Dec. 5) at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

There were 40 penalty-minutes accumulated between the Prince George Spruce Kings and the Chilliwack Chiefs, but the scoreboard at the end of the evening read 3-2 in favour of the visitors.

Chilliwack potted two goals in short span during the early stages of the second period, forcing Prince George to make a goaltending switch.

Jett Alexander, who was credited with the loss, let in three goals on 12 shots and new back-up netminder Carter Woodside got a chance to see home ice for the very first time for over 31 minutes.

The 18-year-old stopped all 15 shots he faced from the Chiefs, but his teammates couldn’t find a way to get back in the contest.

Chilliwack came out of the gate swiftly, grabbing a 1-0 lead just 31 seconds into the first period.

After earning a power-play opportunity, Mason Waite fired a one-timer past Mathieu Caron for his third of the season, taking passes from captain Nolan Welsh and Nick Bochen.

The 1-1 score stood still after 20 minutes of regulation time, but in the second stanza, it was the ‘Kings that didn’t waste time to get a one-goal advantage.

Carter Cochrane also recorded his third goal of the year, finding the puck on a glove-side rebound after Kolton Cousins put a puck to the Chilliwack cage.

The Chiefs came back on a power-play of their own to tie it at 2-2 just over four minutes into the middle frame, then pulled ahead to another one-goal lead three-and-a-half minutes later.

Woodside kept Prince George in the game the next period by stopping 13 shots, but the scoreboard remained 3-2 until the final buzzer.

The red, white and blue fall to 11-17-2-3 for the 2019-20 season and are now 0-2 on a five-game homestand.

The Spruce Kings and Chiefs will meet again tonight (Dec. 6), 7 p.m. from the RMCA.
