The Heritage Commission of the City of Prince George presented the Heritage Citation Award to the Prince George Agricultural and Historical Association, sponsors of the Prince George Exhibition, on Thursday night at a banquet in Kin 1.

"The fair has done a wonderful job of displaying our heritage as well of the agricultural aspects of our region," said Bob Campbell, heritage commission member and curator at the Exploration Place, who presented the award. "This fair has been ongoing since 1912 and it's still a vital part of our community."

Campbell presented the fair's president, Nancy Loreth, with a commemorative plaque.

"It is an honour to receive this award," said Loreth, and with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face, she glanced at Mayor Dan Rogers.

"I always like to tell people that the Prince George Exhibiiton is older than the City of Prince George." The city was incorporated in 1915.

The fair, in its 99th year, always has a strong component to recognize the agricultural activity in the area with the 4-H barns, home arts and horticulture, as well Heritage Lane where there are demonstrations of blacksmithing, as well as displays of pioneer activities.

The banquet was an event to acknowledge the board of directors, volunteers and sponsors who make significant contributions to the exhibition.

MLA Pat Bell and Mayor Dan Rogers were in attendance and said a few words about the hard working people who make the fair possible.

Dinner consisted of locally grown and produced food prepared by the Ramada Hotel chef and staff, including turkey, beef, vegetables and desserts featuring a variety of berries.

Following the dinner the Timebenders performed songs from the 60s to present day.

The fair continues until Sunday night.
