The Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association (PGNAETA) has received $378,000 from the Industry Training Authority (ITA).

The Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association (PGNAETA) has received $378,000 from the Industry Training Authority (ITA).

The money will fund 36 new participants in the apprenticeship access program for Aboriginal people in the Prince George Nechako region.

"This funding will support families that will carry on for generations," Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad said in a press release. "They just need the building blocks to get things started and now they have it."

Since 2006, Aboriginal participation in apprenticeship training has increased by 118 per cent.

Last year, ITA's Aboriginal Initiatives program served 21 communities across the province, resulting in 355 Aboriginal people being ready for trades employment.
