P.G. jobless numbers rise

The city's unemployment rate stood at 6.6 per cent in September, according to the most-recent Statistics Canada labour market survey numbers.

That's up from 5.6 per cent in August as the number of people working declined by 800 to 48,000, and the number not employed but seeking work rose by 500 to 3,400. Those out of work and not seeking employment rose by 300 to 19,200.

During September of last year, the unemployment rate was 6.9 per cent but the number of people working was 52,500 and 3,900 more were seeking work. Those not seeking work amounted to 14,600.

The total number of people of working age stood at 51,400 last month, 500 fewer than for the same month in 2012.
