Eight years ago, Variety - The Children's Charity was there for the Couroux family, who had recently received the news one of their young daughters had cerebral palsy. Today, they continue to do what they can to give back to the organization which helped them through a difficult time.

For the third year, Prince George's Kira Couroux is one of Variety's Coin Kids, campaigning for the charity's 10th annual Kids Coin Drive for Variety. The event raises money for children who have special needs and the 12 Coin Kids from around the province can all relate - all involved have been helped in some way by Variety.

Couroux was born with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, which leaves her unable to sit on her own without support. The nine year old requires custom seating, a walker and stander to get around. Variety helped Kira's family with the purchase of the ramp and tie-downs to make their van wheelchair accessible.

The Kids Coin Drive for Variety has raised more than $1.6 million since the fundraiser began as a small penny drive nine years ago. Now, people can drop off spare change in the collection bins at Marketplace IGA land Bank of Montreal locations throughout B.C., as well as other participating locations. In Prince George, donations can be dropped off at the BMO at 15th Avenue and Central, four participating Chevron gas stations and the Parkwood Place London Drugs. Donations can also be made to Kira's personal fundraising page on the Variety web site, www.kidscoindrive.ca. The Kids Coin Drive will run until Oct. 31.
