PG chamber resolution wins national support

A Prince George Chamber of Commerce resolution urging improvements to a process for attracting skilled workers and entrepreneurs from out of country won delegates' support during the Canadian Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting over the weeken

A Prince George Chamber of Commerce resolution urging improvements to a process for attracting skilled workers and entrepreneurs from out of country won delegates' support during the Canadian Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting over the weekend.

The resolution calls for steps to streamline the provincial nominee program and in particular long process waits from Service Canada for securing labour market opinions (LMO), required to determine if an immigrants skills are in high demand in a region.

Prince George Chamber of Commerce president Gaurav Parmar said getting a response can take up to six months."

"We are thrilled to have national recognition of these challenges and we will eagerly work with the federal government, particularly Immigration, to implement our recommendations in the future," Parmar said.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce representing 192,000 Canadian businesses. The annual general meeting was held in St. John's, Nfld.
