Two Hart-area schools were locked down early Tuesday afternoon after Prince George RCMP received a report of a group of youths with what appeared to be a pellet gun.

Although the report was called in at noon by administration at Kelly Road Secondary School, nearby Heather Park Elementary School was also locked down as a precaution.

The lockdowns were lifted after a student was identified and RCMP seized a pellet gun from a vehicle.

Although an investigation is ongoing, criminal charges are unlikely.

"Investigators are confident the youth was exercising poor judgment and had not intended on harming anyone," Cpl. Craig Douglass said in a press release.

However, he added that it's "never acceptable to bring a weapon of any kind to a school. Such incidents are taken very seriously by police and school staff."
