A 74-year-old Fraser Lake man had to be rescued Saturday at about 12:45 p.m. when he and his dog took a pedal boat out on Fraser Lake in a large area of open water.
In a matter of minutes large sheets of ice closed in around the boat and the Vanderhoof Search and Rescue Swift Water Rescue team who were training in the Fraser Lake area at the time assisted with the rescue.
A conservation officer from Vanderhoof was also on the scene along with a larger boat to assist with the rescue if required.
After some hard work in windy conditions the man and his dog were brought to safety. The man was cold but in good condition at the time of the rescue.
