A $7.84-million contract has been awarded to Jakes Construction of Chilliwack to widen Highway 97 to four lanes between Dragon Lake Road and Quartz Road south of Quesnel, the provincial government said Friday.
The work will cover almost three kilometres, acceleration and deceleration lanes will be added, the highway's shoulders will be widened and left-turn bays and illumination will be added to the intersections at Sales and Campfire Roads.
The project is scheduled to be completed by late summer 2016 and is part of $200-million committed for phase two of the Cariboo Connector program that will add 30 kilometres of new four-lane sections to Highway 97.
