Former Prince George resident Peter Fassbender has been named chair of PavCo.
The BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) is the marketing and business development agency for both BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre. Together, these structural institutions are responsible for millions of dollars per year to the provincial economy, and are two of Vancouver's strongest event and activity attractants.
It was announced on Monday that Fassbender would now chair the board. He has become a well known local government figure in B.C., as mayor of Langley since 2005 and many subsequent activities with the Union of BC Municipalities and other such bodies.
He is also the proprietor of a public relations and strategic planning consulting firm. He got his start in the professional communications field as a broadcaster in Prince George before centring his career in the Lower Mainland.
The PavCo board has one other local connection, also with local government ties. Former Prince George city councillor Don Zurowski is the only northerner at the agency's table. He was appointed in August.
PavCo is an independent body under the auspices of the provincial government. There are 12 members on the board.
