After 20 years of involvement with local charities, a local business owner is trying to get others to see giving in a different light.
"I'm a longtime supporter of the Salvation Army and I wanted to change it up," said First Litre Pub and liquor store owner Cameron Thun.
In an effort to bring awareness to the work the Salvation Army does and the need they have for food, Thun and his family decided to donate $5,000 and issue a challenge for others to do the same.
The Paying it Forward 5000 Club is a call to businesses and individuals to match his family's donation.
"Prince George has a big heart and the businesses of this community are always ready to respond to a challenge to meet the need of those less fortunate," Thun said. "I want to extend that challenge now."
As an added bonus to the feeling of doing something for your community, the Thun family are creating a 5000 Club plaque to put contributors names on and each club member will receive a golf shirt and keeper plaque to show off.
The money is a welcome gift for the Salvation Army after falling short of their Christmas Kettle Campaign goal.
"These funds will help offset that deficit and continue to help us meet the needs in the community as we discover what those needs are," said Salvation Army Capt. Neil Wilkinson.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the club, which the Thun's don't want to be exclusive, can contact the Salvation Army of Prince George 250-564-4000 at or Cameron Thun at 250-640-1313.
