Partnership to benefit blast victims

A city partnership with the Prince George Community Foundation will allow those affected by April's Lakeland Mills explosion to have access to financial aid.

A city partnership with the Prince George Community Foundation will allow those affected by April's Lakeland Mills explosion to have access to financial aid.

At Monday night's meeting, city council voted in favour of teaming up with the foundation to help administer the Lakeland Fire Assistance Fund.

The city will play intermediary when it comes to doling out the money to the PG Community Fire Assistance Fund Society - established for the purpose of assisting those affected by the April 23 blast - since the foundation can only grant funds to registered charities or societies.

Under the agreement, the city will accept money from the foundation as a designated gift and then issue a cheque to the society, who will be the ones issuing cheques to individuals deemed in need of the money.
