A federal who was on the lam for more than three weeks before he was apprehended last July has been sentenced to 15 months in jail.

Jason Michael Rogers, 29, received the sentence in provincial court on Thursday for robbery. He was also sentenced to 12 months in jail for theft over $5,000 and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Rogers was arrested at Exhibition Park on July 3, 2011.

Police said at the time that an off-duty police officer saw him trying to steal a vehicle from the Aquatic Centre parking lot.

When the vehicle's owner got in the way, Rogers pulled out a knife and then fled towards CN Centre where he tried to commandeer another vehicle.

But the off-duty officer and some witnesses soon cornered him and he was arrested when on-duty police arrived soon after.

Rogers had been unlawfully at large for more than three weeks from his court-ordered residence at an Activators Society reintegration home. He was also sentenced to three months for being unlawfully at large and for two counts of theft $5,000 or under, committed while on the loose.
