Pandemic claims three more lives in northern B.C.

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported three new COVID-related deaths in the Northern Health region on Wednesday.

The region’s death toll from the pandemic stood at 330 as of Wednesday, according to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. The deaths reported in the Northern Health region made up half of the six COVID-related deaths reported in B.C. on Wednesday.

A total of 2,996 British Columbians have died of COVID-19, the Ministry of Health reported.

Nineteen new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Northern Health region on Wednesday, and 23 people were hospitalized with COVID in the region, including three in critical care.

Since the start of the pandemic, 29,365 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Northern Health region. The province no longer reports the number of active cases.

As of Wednesday, 90.8 per cent of eligible British Columbians (ages five and up) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 87.3 per cent had received two doses. In addition, 57.5 per cent of people aged 12 and up had received a booster dose.

Nearly 11.49 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 527,571 doses in the Northern Health region.
