Hands-on henna treatments, handwriting analysis, make-up demonstrations, chair massages and all the desserts you can fit into your belly.
These are among the attractions designed to pamper women who attend the Girlfriends Who Care "fun-raiser" Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Coast Inn of the North to support the Prince George Rotary Hospice House.
Girlfriends Who Care is an evening of activities geared toward women formerly organized by the Minerva Foundation for BC Women. It was an annual event until four years ago when Minerva's Prince George chapter folded.
"I kept hearing from the women who attended it and they thought it was so much fun and we should do it more than once a year, because there aren't a lot of girlfriend events in Prince George," said event organizer Laura Hansen. "Although this is a fundraiser we have decided to call it a fun-raiser as we have all been to the same old formatted events for good causes whose agenda has gone stale. We wanted to put the fun back in giving."
The Prince George Hospice Society and its staff are dear to the heart of Hansen, whose father, Ed Cutway, died in hospice 10 years ago. Hansen, a Yellowhead Rotary Club member and former hospice volunteer, wanted to show her appreciation for the services the hospice provides.
"When my dad was getting to the end stage in his life and I suggested hospice and he was all for it and we had such a wonderful experience," said Hansen. "He was in a coma by the time he got there, so he didn't know what was going on, but it was the experience we were given by the staff, who were so respectful. They were there when you needed them but they also gave you your space. My dad died with great dignity and as a family we felt everything was handled perfectly."
In addition to the interactive booths, there will be a fashion show and a belly dancing demonstration by Halalwa. Artist Janice Parker will paint a picture at the event that will go home with the winner of a draw, and several gift baskets will also be drawn.
Tickets are $50 each, available at Lavender gift shop on Third Avenue, Shhh... on Westwood Drive, Vanilla Clothing at the Coast Inn of the North, and Shine Hair Studio in College Heights.
