Pacific Western Brewing Company is now a sponsor of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

PWB is "excited to come on board," chief executive officer Kazuko Komatsu said in a statement issued Friday.

"We look forward to sharing our locally-produced British Columbian products with the thousands of Canadians who will be coming to Prince George," Komatsu said.

"But just as important, this partnership ties directly to one of our community projects, the Hometown Hero program, formed through a dynamic partnership between Pacific Western Brewing local sports affiliations. This grassroots sponsorship initiative establishes a channel to focus fundraising activities on local heroes in sport and community."

CWG chief Stuart Ballantyne called the news "outstanding."

"This is a company that will help tell the northern story to Canadians as a Prince George success story," Ballantyne said.

"It's a company that started small, and started local and has grown to become B.C.'s largest and longest-established independent brewery, winning awards for its product worldwide."

The games will run from Feb. 12 to March 1, 2015 and feature 23 sports at 18 venues, drawing 2,000 athletes and 1,500 coaches and support staff, plus their friends, family and fans in general. It's also forecast to generate an economic impact of $70-$90 million, according to organizers.
