A search had been launched on the Salmon River, north of Prince George, for a 25-year-old male who is an inexperienced kayaker.
The man was dropped off about 20 kilometres up the river from Highway 97 at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday night and the report came in that he was missing at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police contacted Emergency Management for BC for help and Prince George Search & Rescue began the search at first light.
At about 7:30 a.m. the police were told the kayaker returned home safe. Shortly after he started kayaking down the Salmon River, the kayaker fell in because the current was so swift. He lost his cell phone in the river, managed to get out, and spent the night walking home.
Police would like to remind the public that at this time of year especially, rivers are fast with strong currents and to use extreme caution whether experienced or novice.
