A rural business near Prince George is the latest victim of copper thievery.
The wire was at a location in the 6000 block of Otway Road, on the south side of the Nechako River in the forested western fringes of the city. Sometime overnight between Monday and Tuesday, thieves came onto the property and made off with the wire.
"It is believed that the thieves used an all-terrain vehicle or vehicles to access the business and steal the copper wire," said Prince George RCMP spokeswoman Const. Julie Champagne. "The person or persons responsible for this theft have tried to remove wires that were in use. This is dangerous and requires training."
It is believed the thieves may be living in the same area.
Police are reminding the public, especially business owners that use copper wires and pipes in large amounts, that thieves target that material due to high commodity prices. They sell the copper, and other metals, for cash.
