Operation Red Nose 2011 is hosting a volunteer recruitment night on Saturday, 6 p.m. start, in the atrium of the College of New Caledonia.

The organization provides rides home to partygoers who've drank too much to get behind the wheel.

"Last year we were thrilled with the number of people who took advantage of our service during the holiday season," said Operation Red Nose spokesperson Andrea Johnson. "In 2010, we provided a record 1,123 safe rides home, with the help of about 300 volunteers.

"We expect to be even busier this year and will need about 350 volunteers to help us out."

The free, seasonal service, organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George - Nechako, in partnership with the RCMP and ICBC, allows partygoers to not only get themselves home safely, but their vehicles too.

Volunteers must be at least 19 years old and have a valid driver's license. They're also required to fill out criminal record check forms. RCMP will be on hand Saturday to begin processing them.

They'll also hear from organizers what to expect on their first night out.

Volunteers can be designated drivers, navigators and operate phones out of Operation Red Nose headquarters.

On average, about 15 teams of three will be on call each night of service, working from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. This year, Operation Red Nose will be in service 10 nights - Nov. 25 and 26, Dec. 2 and 4, Dec. 10 and 11, Dec. 17 and 18, Dec. 30 and New Year's Eve.
