Operation Red Nose seeking volunteers

The campaign has started to sign up volunteers for Operation Red Nose 2012.

The campaign has started to sign up volunteers for Operation Red Nose 2012.

Over the 2011 holiday season, 252 volunteers provide 1,305 rides home for revelers and to meet that total and exceed it, the goal is to have 300 volunteers on board by the time the service starts operating on the Nov. 30-Dec. 2 weekend, said spokesperson Andrea Johnson.

Volunteers can drive, navigate and operate phones. On average, about 15 teams of three will be on call each night of service, working from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Operation Red Nose will also be out on Dec. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 and New Year's Eve.

Now in its 15th year, the free designated driver service is organized by the Prince George-Nechako Rotary Club.

Applications are online at www.ornpg.ca where it can be filled out online or printed off and dropped off at the Community Policing Office at 575 Brunswick St.

Volunteers must be 19 years old and fill out a criminal record check which is included in the application process.
