While Operation Red Nose Prince George has already had four successful nights so far in 2019, they're also in need of help for New Year's Eve.

Operation Red Nose provided 89 rides home this past Friday (Dec. 6) from 77 volunteers and 19 road teams.

The following night on Saturday, 94 rides home were recorded from 65 volunteers and 15 teams.

That's a total of 281 safe rides home in 2019 thus far.

“Our volunteers were rock stars especially on Friday night with the snowy road conditions and we appreciated everyone who called us,” Operation Red Nose spokesperson Andrea Johnson said in a release.

Johnson said while they've had a successful year to date, they are still in need of volunteers on Dec. 31.

“We need about 75 more volunteers, the equivalent of 25 road teams, to help us out on Dec. 31 to meet the demand for rides that we expect,” she said.

“Historically in the last 10 years we have provided between 150 to 200 rides alone on New Year’s Eve and right now we don’t have enough teams to ensure everyone gets home safely.”

Those interested in helping out can apply online at www.ornpg.ca.

Volunteers who’d like to be part of a road team must be 19 years old and have a valid B.C. driver’s license. Road volunteers can be designated drivers (drive the client’s vehicle), navigators to work with the designated driver and escort drivers (transports the team from the client’s pickup location to the drop-off location.)

Donations received during the program are donated to Prince George local youth and amateur sport organizations.
