Operation Red Nose, Prince George's holiday safe-ride service, delivered 200 rides home over the weekend.
The holiday safe ride service has now delivered 360 rides home since beginning Dec. 1. The designated driving service, organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George - Nechako in partnership with ICBC and the Prince George RCMP, logged more than 5,000 km of travel distance over the course of the weekend. Last year, during the same weekend, the service also gave 200 safe rides.
In 2015, the service offered 260 safe rides over the same weekend, including a record 163 on the Saturday.
On Friday, 80 volunteers, including 19 road teams, provided 71 rides, while 81 volunteers, including 17 road teams, delivered 129 rides on Saturday night.
Operation Red Nose will be operating again this weekend before taking a break for Christmas. The service will then ramp up on Dec. 29 and 30, before its final night on New Year's Eve. Organizers are still looking for volunteers for New Year's Eve. Anyone interested can sign up online at www.ornpg.ca.
