Operation Red Nose volunteers delivered 260 safe rides home in Prince George on the weekend.

On Friday, 74 volunteers, including 23 road teams, provided 97 rides, travelling 3,092 kilometres.

Saturday was much busier, as 96 volunteers, including 27 road teams, gave a whopping 163 rides in six hours, travelling 4,161 km.

Comparatively, it equals the total of number of rides for night six that was reached in 2014. On the same night in 2010, 183 were provided on the same night.

Saturday night started off slow, but then as soon as midnight hit, the phone started ringing for rides. At one point, there was a 45-minute wait. Teams eventually caught up to the demand two hours later.

Also on Saturday, five teams from the Prince George RCMP, adding up to 25 people, volunteered their time on the road.

So far after six nights, 568 safe rides home during the 2015 holiday season have been provided. The designated driving service is organized by the Nechako Rotary Club in partnership with the Prince George RCMP and ICBC.

There are three nights remaining in the season - this Friday and Saturday and New Year's Eve. Volunteers are still needed for New Year's Eve as it's expected we'll need at least 40 teams to keep up with the demand.

Everyone's name will entered into a draw for a chance to win a 20-minute helicopter ride thanks to Aberdeen Helicopters.

Volunteers must be 19 years old and undergo a criminal record check that's part of the online application available at www.ornpg.ca.
