For the sixth year in a row, Operation Red Nose gave more than 1,000 rides to Prince George residents during its winter season safe driving blitz.

That's over the course of four weekends for a total of nine nights - with New Year's Eve the busiest night, as always.

This year volunteers gave 209 safe rides home starting Dec. 31 and into the wee hours of Jan. 1, bringing the season's total to 1,059 rides.

That's the third best total in the organization's 18-year history. 2010 is still the leader with 1,123.

The volunteer-driven designated driving service is organized by the Nechako Rotary Club in partnership with ICBC and the Prince George RCMP. Volunteers and sponsors will be recognized at a dinner on Saturday, Jan. 16.
