Operation Red Nose back on the road

Volunteers will be providing safe rides home this Friday and Saturday night
operation-red-nose-3-dec-6-2022

Operation Red Nose volunteers were joined by police officers, firefighters, ambulance drivers, a tow truck driver and even a local funeral home operator at CN Centre on Tuesday morning.

The message? To let holiday season revellers know there is a safe way to get back home after a night on the town - and to remind them of the possible consequences if they decide to get behind the wheel themselves.

Operation Red Nose volunteers act as designated drivers. It's a matter of calling ORN at 250-963-7233 or 250-963-RIDE then handing over your keys once a volunteer shows up.

So far this season, ORN volunteers have given 127 rides and they will be back out on the road again this coming Friday and Saturday night, on Fri., Dec. 16 and Sat., Dec. 17 and on New Years Eve. (They're taking a break for the Christmas weekend).

If you're planning an office party for one of those nights, feel free to contact ORN in advance at 250-961-6985.

Rides are free although donations are appreciated and all proceeds go to Prince George community youth and amateur sports programs. Your vehicle can be filled with as many friends as there are seatbelts.

Rides are accepted starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 3 a.m.

When ORN is not operating there are other safe ways to get home - from taxis to ride hailing services to the city's transit system.

ORN volunteers are welcome. About 25 teams of three will be needed for New Year's Eve. Volunteers are also needed to field calls and dispatch teams.
