Open burning is now allowed in the Northwest Fire Centre, the province announced on Wednesday (Sept. 12).

A ban was put in place earlier this summer in response to the wildfire season.

Category 2 and 3 open burning is permitted to take place with the following fire-related activities:

  • Stubble or grass fires over an area smaller than 2,000 square metres
  • The use of burning barrels and burning cages
  • The use of air curtain burners
  • The use of binary exploding targets
  • The use of sky lanterns
  • The use of fireworks, including firecrackers

While fire dangers ratings have dropped, British Columbians are asked to be cautious when doing any outdoor burning.
