Prince George RCMP is reminding the public that the month-long gun amnesty in B.C. is coming to an end Monday night.

In other words, you have only a few days left to turn over any unwanted firearms and weapons over to police.

The amnesty applies to documented or undocumented firearms, weapons and ammunition and as of Tuesday, the Prince George RCMP have taken in 22 rifles, seven handguns, six shotguns, two pellet guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

"Unwanted weapons are a potential hazard," Prince George RCMP said.

"Should these weapons be stolen in a break and enter, they could be used in a commission of a crime, potentially leading to a tragic result.

"Preventing weapons from getting into the hands of criminals is essential to public safety and a priority for the Prince George RCMP."

Whatever you do, do not bring firearms into the detachment. Instead, arrange to have them picked up by calling the detachment's non-emergency line at 250-561-3300.
