Prince George RCMP are urging motorcyclists to slow down, after one man was killed and another injured in a pair of crashes last week,

On May 11, police were called to a crash on Highway 97 South, near the Woodpecker rest stop, around 8:30 p.m.

Initial reports indicate that a southbound motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in the highway and went into the ditch. The 65-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance, but he later died of his injuries.

“Investigators are asking that anyone who witnessed the driver prior to him exiting the roadway or who may have dashcam footage of him riding before the time of the crash at 8:30 p.m. to please contact the Prince George RCMP by calling 250-561-3300 to speak with police,” Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper said.

Earlier that day, RCMP were called to a motorcycle crash that sent its rider to hospital.

Just before 11 a.m., RCMP were called to a crash on Foothills Boulevard near Cranbrook Hill Road. A northbound motorcyclist couldn't make the curve in the road and crashed into the centre median – causing the bike to roll and ejecting the rider.

The 19-year-old rider was sent to hospital for treatment.

RCMP traffic services commander Sgt. Kyle Ushock said investigators believe speed and inexperience were contributing factors in the crash.

The Prince George RCMP are urging motorcyclists to refresh their skills and be comfortable  with their vehicle before riding on public streets. Other motorists are reminded to watch for motorcycles on the road.
