There is only one day left in this year's Interior Drive for Life blood donor challenge and Prince George is gaining on Kelowna. This is the tightest race between the cities of Kelowna and Prince George, Canadian Blood Services has seen in years.

There is only one day left in this year's Interior Drive for Life blood donor challenge and Prince George is gaining on Kelowna.

This is the tightest race between the cities of Kelowna and Prince George, Canadian Blood Services has seen in years.

Prince George beat Kelowna in last year's challenge and the local Canadian Blood Services is hoping to add a second win to their record. But the clinic needs all the help they can get

"For those who have booked appointments today, please honour them and help contribute to the last day of our summertime challenge," said Tamara Sweet, partnership specialist, Prince George.

"For those who have not yet booked appointments please do so today. We have space available and we need you to win the challenge and provide much needed blood products for hospitals patients in need."

In the last five weeks of the two-city challenge, Prince George and Kelowna residents have donated a combined 1,500 units of blood, impacting the lives of up to 4,500 patients this summer.

This year's competition has also been keeping track of how many new donors have given blood, to date, a total of 186 new donors have given blood during the challenge beating the average new donor rate of 10 per cent by more than two per cent.
