Prince George will participate in a national movement to take a stand against the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.
B.C.’s northern capital is hosting a sister rally for the Victor Walk, which is an initiative started by Stanley Cup-champion Theo Fleury back in 2013, to give a voice to those who’ve been affected by childhood trauma.
The walk has grown into a national movement known as the Orange Wave of Courage because of the orange shirts worn by supporters and survivors.
It’s now an initiative of the Breaking Free Foundation, which is an organization on a mission to provide survivors of traumatic life events with treatment and support.
The 2019 Victor Walk takes place in Calgary with three additional support walks happening in Toronto, Norfolk County, and Prince George.
The Prince George walk takes place on Saturday, July 27 from 12 to 2 p.m beginning at the Courthouse.
The route participants will take circles around downtown ending back at the Courthouse.
Participants will walk down George Street to Fifth Avenue and then turn right on Fifth, then right on Quebec Street, then right on Third Avenue.
Walkers will be assisted with a traffic marshal to cross Third, Fourth, and Fifth Avenues.
A documentary directed by Michael Lynch has also been produced about the walk (see below).
You can check out the trailer for that film and find out more info on the Victor Walk website.
