Omineca Arts Centre wants you to join them tonight (Dec. 20) to watch the multi-award winning film Reel Injun, with a discussion afterward.
Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond sifts through a century's worth of classic film archives to get an understanding of the cinematic portrayal of what he calls "The Hollywood Indian."
Diamond travels throughout Northern Canada and the American Heartland to see how the myth of the "Injun" has contributed to various understandings and misunderstandings about Indigenous people. He uses hundreds of clips from classic and recent Hollywood films to trace depictions of First Nations people, and interviews Indigenous and non-Indigenous celebrities, activists, film critics and historians.
The screening starts at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. at the Omineca Arts Centre, located at 369 Victoria St. Entry and snacks are by donation. All ages are encouraged to attend. For more information, feel free to check out the event's Facebook page.
