Pull out your nicest flannel — because Downtown Prince George is ready to kick off the holiday season with Plaid Friday.
As an alternative to Black Friday, Plaid Friday not only celebrates the cosiness of a nice plaid shirt but all the great things about shopping local.
During the event, which takes place all day on Nov. 23, your favourite local businesses in downtown Prince George will be staying open late and offering great deals. You may even be able to catch some live music.
If you decide to do a little holiday shopping, you can even get your hands on some free Love Downtown PG swag; just bring your receipts to the Plaid Friday Headquarters at the Hubspace (1299 Third Ave.) to pick up some swag, and the first 12 people to do so will win a free shovel.
Because what's handier in Prince George in the winter than a shovel?
There will even be carolers strolling the streets to amplify the holiday spirit and Santa Claus will be at the Hubspace to take photos with kids.
He’ll be there from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m., and will be accompanied by a professional photographer to take pictures for a $5 donation. All donations from the Santa photos will be going to the Community Partners Addressing Homelessness (CPAH).
CPAH is a group of community service organizations, government ministries, organizations and concerned individuals all working in partnership to end homelessness in Prince George.
The photos will be available to download on the Love Downtown PG Facebook page.
Plaid Friday is also the kick off of the Shop Downtown PG contest, where you can enter to win a prize just by shopping downtown from Nov. 23 until Jan. 24.
And you can also join in on all the fun just by wearing plaid! If you get the office together and post your plaid-full photo on the Love Downtown Facebook Page during Plaid Friday, you can be entered to win a lunch for up to 15 people, catered by Sweet Sassy Savory Catering.
