Do you like to cross-country ski at Otway? Do you enjoy target-shooting?

If you said ‘yes’ to the above questions, then an event taking place in Prince George this weekend may catch your interest in combining both skills.

The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is offering a one-day session that teaches the basics of biathlon, a popular winter sport that tests speed, agility, steadiness and precision.

The organization is hoping the socially-distanced course can lead to more competitors and recreational involvement this winter as residents of all ages are encouraged to sign up.

This includes junior nordic skiers (nine years of age and older), parents and masters.

Biathlon is no stranger to Prince George as it's produced local talent like Olympians Sarah Beaudry and Megan Tandy, and the city utilized its Otway facility for the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships in 2019.

Caledonia’s session is slated for Sunday (Sept. 13) from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A $25 fee is needed to cover insurance, ammunition, rifle rental and administrative costs.

The deadline to join is Thursday (Sept. 10).
