B.C. ombudsman Kim Carter will be talking about senior health care in Prince George next Monday at the Prince George Public Library.

The Prince George Council of Seniors is hosting the free event and Carter will present a 45- minute speech before opening the floor to questions from the audience.

Carter did an investigation into seniors' care and the result is a report called Senior Health Care in B.C., with 176 recommendations.

"Kim Carter was here in Prince George a couple of years ago at the beginning stages of the investigation and spoke briefly to the board of the Council of Seniors," said Lola-Dawn Fennell, manager of the Prince George Council of Seniors (PGCOS). "Obviously we're concerned about seniors' care in our own community as well as throughout the province. Carter finished her investigation, released her report and the provincial government promptly responded with an action plan on seniors' care. The Council of Seniors advocacy committee is concerned about seniors care whether it's in residential care facilities or seniors who are living independently. We want seniors' lives to be good. The advocacy committee requested Kim Carter come back to Prince George and talk about her investigation and report and her recommendations. So we thought it was not only important for members of the council and our board and advocacy committee to hear what she had to say, but anyone else interested in the community can attend as well."

This meeting starts at 3:30 in the Keith Gordon Room of the Bob Harkins branch of the library and is open to the public.
