A new display is up at Exploration Place to commemorate Prince George's contribution to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The exhibit includes an Olympic Torch display and a shadow box that contains a medal tray identical to the ones used during the Games.
It was given to the city for helping create the podium on which Canadian figure skaters Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir and Joannie Rochette celebrated Olympic medal performances last February.
The podium, made out of blue-stained lodgepole pine, was donated by the Prince George Community Forest and milled by local company Lakeland Mills Ltd., a Sinclar Group Forest Products company.
It was housed at the Pacific Coliseum, which was the venue for both figure skating and short-track speed skating events.
It has reportedly since been auctioned off by Vanoc through Gameday, which specializes in sports memorabilia, and the bidders were limited to those directly involved in the Games. Officials at Gameday did not return a phone call and e-mail sent Friday.
