Old Caribou Highway duplex fire, two injuries, damage at $500,000

Saturday at about 5 a.m. Prince George Fire Rescue was called to a duplex, which was on fire in the 4200 block of the Old Caribou Highway.

Saturday at about 5 a.m. Prince George Fire Rescue was called to a duplex, which was on fire in the 4200 block of the Old Caribou Highway.

From three halls, 16 firefighters responded and found all seven occupants of the duplex present and accounted for with two injured at the scene. One resident had smoke inhalation, the other had burns to their hand.

When crews arrived the two-storey duplex had smoke coming from the main floor and roof of one of the units.

Crews entered the structure with an offensive attack only to discover the fire had spread to the adjacent unit.

The roof of the duplex was heavily damaged.

Crews will remain on scene to check for any hotspots.

Cause of the fire is not yet determined. Damage is estimated at $500,000.

No members of the fire crew were injured.
