Add another 68 to B.C.'s total.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix announced the number of recorded cases in the past day at a daily briefing this afternoon (Aug. 27) for a new provincial total of 5,372.

Among the new cases, Northern Health added four for a recorded total of 137.

B.C.'s active-case count sits at 906 across the province. This includes 22 in hospital and in seven in critical care.

There has been one new death from the virus with the fatality rate rising to 204.

There have been 1,737 cases recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 2,818 in Fraser Health, 173 in Island Health, 429 in Interior Health and 78 people who reside outside of Canada.

The number of people that health officials are monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19 in B.C. has been steadily rising since the B.C. government started to regularly release these numbers earlier this month.

There are now 2,810 people being monitored for the deadly virus in the province because they have come into contact with people who are known to have contracted the disease.

The rise is in part because the number of known cases continues to increase. Provincial health officer Bonnie Henry revealed August 27 that 68 people have been identified as carrying the virus in the past 24 hours, making the total number of known infections 5,372 since the virus first appeared in the province in January.

In an unexpected move, health officials released more detailed case location areas from January to July of this year with the BCCDC map showing 33 cases in the Prince George area. The data is the location where people reside, not where transmissions were spread.
