A Mountie fired at least one shot during an arrest on Sunday evening at the corner of Strathcona Avenue and Norwood Street in the VLA, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.
The shot was fired while police were attempting to apprehend the occupants of a vehicle and the driver allegedly accelerated towards an officer.
"No one was hurt," Douglass said. "The driver was taken into custody a short time later."
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO), which investigates police-involved deaths, was consulted, but will not be taking jurisdiction, Douglass said, and as a result, the Prince George RCMP will be requesting another independent agency to investigate.
A witness told The Citizen on Sunday that a blue Grand Am with its back window shattered sped out of the Lombardy Mobile Home Park, triggering an extensive RCMP manhunt in the VLA area.
Bystanders at the scene reported hearing a least one gunshot before the Grand Am sped away.
About 20 minutes later RCMP had cordoned off Regents Crescent, where they found a car and sent out dogs to search the area for a suspect. The dogs eventually led RCMP to a house on Regents Crescent.
