A Prince George RCMP member suffered several bites from a dog during a drug-related raid of a 2000 block Oak Street home just after midnight Thursday.
As the occupants attempted to flee, the dog attacked the officer, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.
"On a daily basis, police officers inherently encounter dangerous situations as part of their duties," Douglass said. "In addition to firearms, knives, syringes, and homemade weapons, vicious dogs are commonplace. Whenever possible, steps are taken to minimize risks to our officers and the dogs but unfortunately it is not always possible."
A quantity of cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia were seized, as well as a modified .22 calibre rifle, two pistol style pellet guns, a significant amount of counterfeit American currency and currency-making equipment
Five people were arrested and police are recommending charges against three of them.
Ambulance personnel treated the officer for the injuries and the dog was destroyed.
