Not every nurse was thrilled to see B.C. Nurses Union president Debra McPherson in Prince George last week.
For fear of workplace reprisals, some nurses contacted The Citizen under condition of anonymity to voice their displeasure with the way the union has handled the changes in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) qualifications.
McPherson assured the public that "nurses are being well represented."
The RN designation is now a four-year degree program, the LPN takes less time and is more readily available in smaller colleges. The RNs' contend this has caused a potential wave in lesser-trained nurses in positions that should be held by the traditional, more comprehensively trained RN.
