Arthur the Aardvark once said, “Having fun isn’t hard, when you’ve got a library card!”.

Well, it looks like Prince George kids and teens know that well, because the library remains well used by the younger generations.

Last year 15,164 children and teens participated in free library programs which is up from the 14,872 that participated in 2017.

Library cardholders under the age of 19 borrowed 4,253 items each week and that same age group logged 1,514 computer sessions.

The Prince George Public Library releases these statistics to mark Family Literacy Day which happens on Jan. 27.

In 2018, the library offered over 700 youth programs including brand new events like a kids’ variety show, a stuffy sleepover, adulating 101, the teen art showcase, and STEAM Saturdays.

There’s also a lot for kids and teens to read at the library, as its physical collection currently holds over 56,000 easy, junior and teen items between the Bob Harkins and the Nechako branches.

The library will also be celebrating Family Literacy Day on Saturday (Jan. 26) with a Todd Parrpalooza celebrating author Todd Parr.

The event will feature stories by Todd Parr and activity stations inspired by his colourful illustrations, such as face-painting, bracelet making and twister.
