At least one person is dead after a two-vehicle crash north of Quesnel.
Shortly before 4 p.m. Aug. 28, a northbound car crossed the center line of Highway 97 South at Brookwood Ranch and collided head on with a south bound tractor trailer.
As a result of the crash, both the car and the chip truck caught fire, which spread to the tree line along the highway at the crash site.
As of press time, police were unable to confirm how many people were in the car at the time of the crash. The driver and lone occupant of the chip truck appeared to be uninjured.
The Cariboo Chilcotin and Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Services responded to the site, as did the Ministry of Forests to deal with the fire.
The highway was closed for at least eight hours after the incident.
Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash, as well as to anyone who may have observed either of the vehicles prior to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
