After the Enbridge gas pipeline rupture near Prince George Tuesday night (Oct. 9), Canfor has confirmed two pulp mills have been shut down, while two others are still operational.
In a statement to PrinceGeorgeMatters, a Canfor spokesperson says the two that are operational are using "alternate fuel sources."
"I can confirm that currently Canfor's Northwood and Prince George pulp mills are down," the statement says. "Our intercontinental pulp mill and Prince George sawmill are operating. They are using alternate fuel sources."
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) and National Energy Board (NEB) have both deployed teams to the site to investigate the incident further. The TSB will head the investigation with the NEB's assistance.
The rupture has also prompted FortisBC to request its natural gas customers across the province turn off their thermostats as well as reduce use of all other natural gas appliances due to fears of decreased energy flow and potential loss of service.
