Northern Health stays at 23 COVID-19 cases, provincial total now 1,336

Five new deaths reported

There has been another increase in B.C. COVID-19 cases. 

Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are 45 new cases in the province for an updated total of 1,336. Northern Health remains at 23 cases.

there are 615 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), 487 in Fraser Health, 81 on Vancouver Island and 130 in Interior Health.

There are currently 135 people in acute care in hospital, and 61 are in intensive care. There are now 226 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in long-term care homes and assisted living. A total of 21 care homes have been affected.

Five new deaths have also been recorded, bringing the total to 48. 

Henry says 838 have recovered. 

Henry emphasizes the importantance of staying home over the weekend, and of using vitual tools to connect with friends and family. She adds that people who are in self-isolation will be receiving calls in order to ensure that they have everything that they need.

Henry also encourages everyone to be kind to people who have to continue to work during the pandemic, such as those working in grocery stores, pharmacies, and in health care. She adds that isolation can be challenging, and that anyone who has an underlying illness should contact a doctor through virtual care. She mentions Anxiety Canada and Bounceback BC as useful resources for mental health.

Health Minister Adrian Dix adds that the province has made significant steps to prepare for the worst during the pandemic. He adds that eveyone working in the health care system is vital during this time.
