Northern Health sees six COVID-19 deaths, 166 new cases over past 72 hours

Over a three-day period, Northern Health saw six COVID-19 related deaths and 166 new cases in the region.

There are now 608 active cases of COVID-19 in the region and 48 people are currently hospitalized with 16 in critical care.

There have now been 231 deaths in Northern Health since the pandemic began.

Provincewide, B.C. is reporting 1,438 new cases of COVID-19 with 4,282 active cases in the province. Of the active cases, 407 individuals are in hospital and 121 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Including the six deaths in Northern Health, there have been 17 new deaths in the past 72 hours for an overall total of 2,218.

There are also 33 active healthcare facility outbreaks in the province including University Hospital of Northern BC, GR Baker Memorial Hospital, Bulkley Valley District Hospital, and the Peace Villa all within Northern Health.

From Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 65.5 per cent of cases and from Oct. 22 to Nov. 4, they accounted for 70.7 per cent of hospitalizations.

As of Monday, Nov. 8 the province is reporting that 90.3 per cent or 4,184,112 of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.0 per cent or 3,986,497 have received their second dose.

In addition, 90.7 per cent or 3,922,224 of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 86.6 per cent or 3,744,474 have received their second dose.
