Northern Health sees 84 COVID-19 hospitalizations, 130 new cases

There were 130 new COVID-19 cases reported in Northern Health in the past 24 hours and there are now 829 active cases in the region.  

Provincially, B.C. is reporting 752 new cases of COVID-19 and 5,945 active cases in the province.

There are 350 individuals in hospital and 136 in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

In Northern Health specifically there are 84 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, with 15 people in critical care.

There have also been nine new deaths throughout B.C. with five in Fraser Health, three in Vancouver Coastal and one in Island Health.

There is also a total of 18 active healthcare outbreaks in the province currently including Jubilee Lodge in Prince George and two at the University Hospital of Northern BC in the Primary Care Unit and the Internal Medicine Unit.

Northern Health also reported a new COVID-19 school exposure which occurred at Heritage Elementary School on Sept. 27.

From Sept. 28-Oct. 4, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 70.2 per cent of cases and from Sept. 21-Oct. 4, they accounted for 77.6 per cent of hospitalizations.

As of Wed, Oct. 6 88.4 per cent or 4,098,733 of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 81.9 per cent or 3,797,462 received their second dose.

In addition, 88.9 per cent or 3,845,695 of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 82.7 per cent or 3,575,790 received their second dose.
