Northern Health sees 62 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

There are now 849 active cases in the region

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 37.9 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.

There are 62 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Northern Health in the past 24 hours and 849 active cases in the region which has dropped from yesterday’s (Sept. 14) report of 964.

While there have been seven new deaths in B.C, none occurred in the Northern Health region. The overall death toll is now 1,873.

In Northern Health, there are 46 people hospitalized with 12 of them in critical care.  

Yesterday the region also hit a grim milestone surpassing 10,000 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Throughout the province, B.C. is reporting 661 new cases of COVID-19 for a total of 176,480 cases. There are also currently 5,791 active cases in the province with 288 people in hospital and 137 of those in intensive care.

The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The province is also battling 24 active heath-care facility outbreaks including at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George and the Fort St. John Hospital both in Northern Health.

From Sept. 7-13, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 76.5 per cent of cases and from Aug. 31-Sept. 13, they accounted for 87.3 per cent of hospitalizations.

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 37.9 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 7,643,973 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, 86.1 per cent or 3,991,888 of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 78.6 per cent or 3,644,716 have received their second dose.

In addition, 86.7 per cent or 3,749,484 of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 79.5 per cent or 3,439,273 have received their second dose.
