Sixty new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region on Friday, the highest single-day case count since April 21, according to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
The number of active cases in the region increased to 163 – a 40 per cent jump from Thursday’s total of 116.
Three people were hospitalized with COVID in northern B.C., two of which were listed in intensive care.
No new COVID-related deaths were reported in the province on Friday, leaving the province’s death toll from the pandemic at 1,779 – including 159 residents of the Northern Health region.
As of Friday, 82.4 per cent of eligible British Columbians (those aged 12 and up) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 72 per cent were fully vaccinated, according to the B.C. Ministry of Health.
As of Thursday, 75 per cent of eligible people in the Prince George local health area had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 63 per cent were fully vaccinated.
A total of 7.16 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, including 311,383 in the Northern Health region.
Across the province, 717 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday, pushing the number of active cases up to 4,277. A total of 82 British Columbians were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 39 in intensive care.
Since the start of the pandemic there have been 155,079 cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 8,054 in the north.
